California Trauma Scene Practitioner Register

In California, anyone paid to clean a trauma scene must register with the Department of Public Health. Almost nobody tells you that list exists. Here it is, in full, so you can check a company before you let it into a property.

What this register is

Under California's Medical Waste Management Act, a Trauma Scene Waste Management Practitioner is a person or company that provides trauma scene waste clean-up services commercially, meaning they are paid for it. Anyone doing this work for pay must register with the Department of Public Health, and the Department publishes the list below.

As of the Department's July 20, 2026 list, fetched 2026-09-04, there are 372 registrations, held by about 346 companies. The list changes as companies register, renew or lapse; it is not a fixed number.

What registration does NOT mean

This part comes directly from the Department, not from us. Registration "does not carry any expressed or implied endorsement by the Medical Waste Management Program, Department of the Public Health, of the quality of work and/or service provided."

Registration is also a separate process from the licensing activities of the Contractors' State License Board. Under current law, the Department does not require a practitioner to hold a contractor's license as part of registration, though some restoration jobs may still require a licensed contractor.

So this register answers one question well: is a company legally permitted to be paid for trauma scene clean-up in California. It says nothing about competence, and it does not confirm a company can lawfully perform the reconstruction work that often follows.
